Cooling Blanket Installation: Is It Complicated?

A fabric cooling blanket requires zero installation. There is nothing to plug in, nothing to assemble, no instructions beyond taking it out of the packaging and using it. Here is what does help for getting the best experience from the very first night.

Before First Use: Wash It

The single thing most worth doing before the first use is washing the blanket on a gentle cold cycle. This removes any residue from the manufacturing process. Air dry completely. Do not use a dryer. After one wash the blanket is ready and at its best performance.

Setting Up Your Sleep Environment

Use the cooling blanket as the layer directly against your skin. Do not put any other blanket between you and the cooling blanket. Leave the blanket loose at the sides and foot of the bed rather than tightly tucked. The heat the blanket draws away from your skin needs to dissipate outward. A loosely draped blanket allows this. A tightly tucked one traps the heat under the bed.

Optimising the Room

For the best results combine the cooling blanket with a reasonably cool room. If you have air conditioning set it to 18-20 degrees Celsius before bed. A fan creates airflow that helps the blanket dissipate heat more effectively. See bedroom fans on Amazon here.

What to Expect the First Few Nights

The cool-on-contact sensation is immediate. The real benefit shows up at 2-4am when a regular blanket would have made you overheat. Most hot sleepers notice the difference within the first two or three nights. The Stillwell Cloud, pull it out, wash it once, sleep under it. Both sides cool, no wrong side, no complexity.
